About All the Animals
All the Animals is a free, independent way to explore the planet's wildlife.
Spin the 3D globe, open a region, and page through the species recorded there β
from the lion and the polar bear to thousands of lesser-known birds, fish, reptiles
and insects. Every entry pairs a real photograph with the animal's common and
scientific name, the region it lives in, and β where it can be established
reliably β its diet, size and conservation status.
How it works
The globe is built from open map data, with a glowing pin for each major habitat
region. Tap a pin or use the search bar β it understands plain descriptions such as
"white bear" or "long ears like a fox" as well as exact names β and you get a grid
of cards you can filter by animal group. Open any card for a fuller profile: where
the animal lives, the local climate and landscape, and a few field notes. The whole
interface is available in 25 languages.
Where the information comes from
Species records and photographs come from the iNaturalist community; conservation
status follows the IUCN categories, from Least Concern through Critically Endangered;
and the continent and country outlines on the globe are from Natural Earth (public
domain). The profiles for the featured animals were researched and written for this
project.
Photos and licensing
Every photograph is Creative Commons licensed β CC0, CC BY, or CC BY-SA β and
sourced through iNaturalist's open-data collection. The photographer and licence are
credited on each photo and in the animal's profile, with links to the licence and to
the original on iNaturalist. Non-commercial and all-rights-reserved images are
deliberately excluded.
